Where to find it

Paraphrase a passage. Revised writing with suggestions you can review before copying or applying the result.

You can also try Paraphraser.

How it works

  1. Paste a focused passage: Use the part of the draft you want to rephrase rather than an unrelated collection of text.
  2. Choose the editing task: Select Paraphraser and review any instructions before generating.
  3. Compare the revision: Check meaning, tone, and attribution, then copy or use the version you want to keep.

Access and scope

Try it free, no sign-up needed. Your draft stays put when you switch tools, and each tool keeps its own result.

Paraphrasing does not remove the need to cite a source. Review factual details and meaning rather than treating a revision as automatically correct.

Is paraphrasing plagiarism?

Not when you put the idea in your own words and credit the source. It becomes plagiarism when the wording stays too close to the original or the source goes uncited. Check your course or library guidance for the rules you're held to.

How do you paraphrase without plagiarizing?

Read the passage until you understand it, then write the idea from memory in your own structure and words. Compare your version with the original to make sure you didn't copy phrases, and add a citation. A similarity checker can show wording that still matches public web pages.

Is AI paraphrasing cheating?

It depends on your course policy. Some instructors allow AI help with wording and others don't. Check the rules for each assignment, credit your sources, and make sure the final text says what you mean.

Can ChatGPT be detected if I paraphrase it?

There's no guarantee either way. Detectors can flag rewritten text, miss it, or flag writing a person wrote. See how AI detectors score writing for what a score can and can't tell you.

Is paraphrasing plagiarism if you cite?

Citing is required, but it isn't always enough. If your version keeps the original's sentence structure and key phrases, it can still count as plagiarism even with a citation. Reword the idea fully, or quote the exact words and cite your source.
