Where to find it
Find citation details. Editable reference drafts built from Crossref publication records, with original-source links when available.
You can also try Citation generator.
How it works
- Enter a DOI or title: Use a publication identifier or a recognizable publication title rather than pasting an unrelated website URL.
- Review the returned record: Check the title, authors, year, and available source link against the publication you intended.
- Finish the reference: Copy the editable draft and check the exact requirements of the citation style you need.
Access and scope
Try it free, no sign-up needed. Your draft stays put when you switch tools, and each tool keeps its own result.
References are editable drafts in one fixed format built from Crossref metadata. Metadata can be incomplete, so check each draft against the source and your course's requirements.
How do I convert a DOI to a URL?
Add https://doi.org/ in front of it. For example, the DOI 10.1000/182 becomes https://doi.org/10.1000/182. StudySim's reference drafts end with a link in this form.
Can I cite by DOI for free?
Yes. You can look up a DOI or title and get reference drafts before you sign up. Usage limits apply. Try it in the citation generator.
Is ChatGPT good for citations?
Chatbots can write references that look right but point to papers that don't exist. StudySim skips that risk by pulling author, year, title, publication and DOI details from Crossref records. Metadata can still be incomplete, so check each draft against the source.
Can I look up a source by title instead of DOI?
Yes. Enter a publication title and StudySim searches Crossref and shows the closest matching records. Pick the one that matches your source. Website links that aren't DOIs won't work. To find sources in the first place, use the academic search engine.
What format does the reference use, and where does the data come from?
Each draft uses one fixed format: authors, year, title, publication, then the DOI link. The details come from Crossref publication records, and a missing year shows as n.d. The draft is editable, so adjust it to match what your course asks for before you submit.
