Try this three-card, illustrative deck about cell transport. Each question has one focused answer drawn from the source excerpt. These are the kind of question-and-answer decks StudySim calls Notecards.
Cell transport
Interactive exampleRead the sample source
A cell membrane is selectively permeable: some substances cross more easily than others. Diffusion is the net movement of particles from higher to lower concentration. Osmosis is the movement of water across a selectively permeable membrane. Both are passive processes and do not require cellular energy. Active transport requires energy to move substances against a concentration gradient.

From your material to your next study session.
- Step 1
Upload your PDF
Create a study space for the class or exam and upload a PDF of up to 50 MB. Add related notes or slides if you want them included in the same source set.
- Step 2
Generate your flashcards
After processing, choose Notecards with StudySim Pro. Use the default or choose how many cards you want and add instructions about the topics to emphasize.
- Step 3
Review one question at a time
Read a card, retrieve the answer, then reveal the back to check yourself. Return to the original source when a definition or explanation needs another look.
Make useful cards from a PDF
A helpful flashcard asks for one idea you can retrieve from memory. For a biology chapter, that might be a definition, a comparison, or one step in a process. A card that asks you to reproduce a whole page is harder to use for focused review.
Use the generation instructions to emphasize the material you need to practice. For example, ask for key terms and short explanations, or focus on the mechanisms covered in the uploaded lecture. Review the result against your PDF before relying on it.
Keep your flashcards connected to the rest of your notes
A single PDF may leave out an example discussed in class. Keep the PDF, notes, and relevant slides in the same study space so the ready sources can be used together. There is room for up to 15 sources per space.
StudySim calls its flashcard tool Notecards. Each card has a front and a back for question-and-answer practice. The public sample shows that format before you create an account or choose a plan.
Choose flashcards, a guide, or a quiz for the next step
Flashcards work well when you want to retrieve a term, explanation, or comparison. A study guide is useful when you first need the structure of a topic. A quiz gives you a different way to check understanding with multiple-choice or written questions.
You can generate all three from the same ready material in StudySim Pro. Keep the outputs together by class or exam so you can move between understanding a topic and testing your recall.
PDF to flashcards questions
How do I turn a PDF into flashcards?
Create a StudySim study space, upload your PDF, and wait for it to process. With StudySim Pro, choose Notecards to generate a deck from the ready source material.
Are Notecards the same as flashcards?
Yes. StudySim uses the name Notecards for its front-and-back question-and-answer decks. This page uses flashcards to describe the same study format.
Can I make flashcards from a PDF for free?
The interactive sample deck on this page is free to try. A free account also provides a short personalized study preview with notes and one practice question. Generating a full flashcard deck from your own PDF requires StudySim Pro.
Can I choose how many flashcards to generate?
Yes. Use the Notecards settings to choose a card count and add generation instructions, or use the one-click default.
Does StudySim accept scanned PDFs?
StudySim includes OCR processing for PDF material, but extraction quality depends on how readable the scan is. Clear, selectable text is preferable. Check the processed source and generated cards when working from scans.
Can I export the deck to Anki?
This page does not offer an Anki export. You can review the generated Notecards inside StudySim.
