GMAT content areas

Quantitative Reasoning

Problem Solving only on the current exam. Official items test algebra, arithmetic, and applied reasoning. A wrong setup is more common than a missed last multiplication.

Verbal Reasoning

Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning. Official items ask you to follow an argument or a passage, not to import outside business trivia.

Data Insights

Tables, graphs, multi-source notes, two-part items, and data sufficiency. Official scoring weights this section equally with Quant and Verbal in the total.

Study tips for GMAT

Pick a section order you have rehearsed

mba.com lets you choose the order of Quant, Verbal, and Data Insights. Practice that order on a timed set so the first section is not an experiment on test day.

Budget the three edits

You may change up to three answers per section. Save those edits for items where you found a clear setup error, not for vague second thoughts.

Finish every section

GMAC applies a score penalty for unanswered questions. A reasoned guess on the last item is better than a blank.
