When Knowt is the better pick

  • You want unlimited free flashcard sets. Knowt's free plan gives you unlimited sets and every study mode. StudySim's free public tools return bounded outputs; its full saved-course Notecards use Pro.
  • You are leaving Quizlet. Knowt imports Quizlet sets with a Chrome extension or pasted text, and you can paste in cards from Anki or a CSV file the same way. StudySim does not list an import tool.
  • You like spaced repetition. Knowt has a Spaced Repetition mode that brings hard cards back sooner. StudySim does not list one.
  • You want to record a class as it happens. Knowt's Live Recording turns a lecture into notes or flashcards. StudySim takes recorded audio and video uploads and does not list live recording.
  • You are preparing for AP, SAT or ACT exams. Knowt has mock exams and practice rooms for those tests, with one free mock exam and five free practice sessions.
  • You study on your phone. Knowt has iOS and Android apps, and you can export a set as a PDF.

When StudySim fits

  • You are preparing for one class or exam and want the readings, notes, guide, flashcards, quiz and podcast kept together in one study space with up to 15 sources.
  • You want quizzes written from your course files, with short- and long-answer questions and settings for length, difficulty and timing. Knowt's practice tests are built from the terms and definitions in a flashcard set.
  • You need AI on a lot of files. Knowt's free plan allows 1 AI summary a month, so heavy AI use means paying either way. StudySim Pro is $20 a month or $120 a year; Knowt Ultra is $24.99 a month or $149.99 a year.

A few useful details

Knowt vs StudySim FAQ

Is Knowt free?

Yes, for flashcards and notes. The free plan includes unlimited sets and notes, live collaboration and every study mode on your own sets. AI features are limited: 1 AI summary a month, 1 full-length mock exam and 5 practice-room sessions. Knowt Ultra removes those limits.

How much does Knowt Ultra cost?

Knowt's plans page lists Ultra at $24.99 a month, or $149.99 a year billed upfront. The annual plan starts with a 3-day free trial.

Is StudySim free?

StudySim has 16 bounded public AI/provider tools and 7 local utilities. Public tools return complete small results before signup, subject to their input, daily, and availability limits. Saving is optional. Pro course generators are separate and retain the existing $1 for the first 3 days, then $20/month or $120/year offer.

How do I move my Knowt flashcards to StudySim?

StudySim does not have a Knowt import. In Knowt, open the set's menu on the Materials page and choose Export as PDF. In StudySim, create a study space for the class and upload that PDF (up to 50 MB), or upload the original lecture files instead. When the sources finish processing, choose Notecards to make a new deck. Generating the deck needs StudySim Pro.

Does StudySim have spaced repetition like Knowt?

StudySim does not list a spaced repetition mode. You review Notecards one card at a time and reveal the back to check yourself. If spaced repetition scheduling matters to you, Knowt has it on the free plan.

Which is better for exam prep, StudySim or Knowt?

It depends on the exam. For AP, SAT or ACT, Knowt has dedicated mock exams and practice rooms. For a class exam built on your own lectures and readings, StudySim makes a study guide, flashcards and quizzes with written answers from those files. Many students who mainly want flashcards will do fine on Knowt's free plan.

Can I use Knowt and StudySim together?

Yes. Both accept PDF and PowerPoint files, so you can upload the same course material to each. Some students keep flashcard drills in Knowt and use StudySim for study guides and practice quizzes.
