Motion formulas and assumptions

A 0.5 kg cart starts from rest under a constant horizontal net force of 2 N. Newton’s second law gives a = F / m = 4 m/s². After 3 s, its speed is 12 m/s and its displacement is 18 m. The force does 36 J of work over that displacement, equal to the increase in kinetic energy. If the same net force continues, the cart keeps accelerating; its speed does not stop increasing at 3 s.

The complete walkthrough

  1. Choose Cheat sheet

Open Cheat sheet in Study Simulator. This capture shows the shared tool and course workspace.

  2. Keep the conditions

Review the source: this example uses a constant net force and starts from rest. Those conditions matter to the formulas.

  3. Create the reference

Choose Generate free cheat sheet and inspect the formulas, definitions and common mistakes in the result.

  4. Use it for review

Copy, print or save the sheet for revision, following the rules that apply to your course or exam.
